Italian-Canadian artist Luigia Zilli grew up in a place rich of history, architecture, and beautiful landscapes developing a true passion for art since her childhood. Young Luigia began attending art workshops and studying art at sixteen, learning precious skills of drawing, painting, fresco, trompe l’oeil and sculpting under the guidance of renowned sculptor Carlo Balljana, for whom she worked four years as his studio assistant. After more than twenty years since her first exhibition, showcasing her works throughout Italy and Canada, her paintings are now held in public and private collections worldwide and have been featured on TV, many magazines and newspapers internationally. Zilli’s works are mostly inspired by Italy’s diverse landscapes and colours and from the Canadian countryside; also, being raised in a place where the bicycle represents an important part of the culture and history, cycling became a strong passion and it has been a great inspiration in creating what is now her popular bicycle and cycling art. Working on a textured ground that resembles the antique frescos like those on Italy’s old buildings walls, she routinely uses a limited but very warm palette of colours ranging from the hearty ones to the bright reds and sunny yellows like those seen in her signature flower fields.
